How to get back to the United States

After graduation: Students must wait for their diplomas in order to apply for advanced placement programs or residency

Advanced Placement website: https://www.adea.org/CAAPIDapp/

The ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists (ADEA CAAPID) is available to all individuals applying to the participating programs.

Cycle typically from February-March of the following year. These programs are typically 2 years long, however vary from state to state (sometimes 2 years, sometimes 3 years-depends on the program). The earlier you submit your application the better, however interviews are offered on a rolling admission basis.

Residency: Typically foreign trained applicants are eligible for mainly AEGD/General Dentistry residency. These as well vary from state to state in duration. Website: https://www.adea.org/pass/ This website lists the various residencies available, HOWEVER one must be sure they meet the requirements, many of these residencies have restrictions as to the type of applicant they want. Foreign trained grads have the best chance at the general dentistry residencies. This route provides a limited license, so the license won’t be valid in all 50 states.
