18th International Congress of Young Medical Scientists – Poznań, 14th to 16th June

Cardiology president Mary-Tiffany A. Oduah claimed two 2nd place awards in two different categories. In “Cardiology and Hypertension” Mary-Tiffany’s research looked at the effect of differing STEMI diagnostic criteria on patient management and subsequent outcome. Whilst in “Public Health”, Pokémon Go was the subject of an epidemiological report.

In addition to the presenting her research, Mary-Tiffany was also involved in hosting the workshop titled “Surgical Aortic Valve Implantation for Beginners”. The workshop was hosted by the SKN Cardiac surgery group lead by Mikołaj Steostianin and taught by Dr. Bartłomiej Perek.

Two ENT members Natalia Papp and Jadzia Chou both gained recognition for their work in “Dentistry, Head and Neck”. Natalia received a 3rd place for her topic on chronic sinusitis followed closely by Jadzia who received distinction for her research on the role of Natural killer cells in chronic rhinosinusitis with a focus on nasal polyps.

Taking 3rd place in “Oncology, Hematology and Radiotherapy” was Radiology member Chris Yen-Chen Lo for his topic on melanoma probes.

VIII International Students’ Conference of Young Medical Researchers – Wrocław, 5th to 7th April

The Pediatrics group consisting of president, Alexandra Kowalczyk and member, Camille Sirotnikov presented their findings on “Clinical manifestations of yersiniosis in the pediatric population”.
